I first touched down in St Louis in the summer of 82 visiting family for my summer vacation. I wasn't off the porch yet, so when I got there I saw all these dudes with blue rags, loc's and Pendletons. Coming from the Chi I knew they was banging but I didn't know what a crip was back then. My dude Ali met him twice back at the house. Once in U City and the other time in NW Place. One time for the house #314. There is a difference between St Louis City and St Louis County. St Louis City has 280,000 now. St Louis County has almost 2 million people. STL used to be the fourth largest city in the US at one point. When I was growing it was about 400K plus people in the city alone.
St Louis' metro population is now coming from St Charles, Jefferson, Franklin counties and the Metro East. If they didnt include those areas, St Louis would be much further down the population list.
